Protecting Yourself from Trade Scammers

Posted by RowdyRuffBoy in

Some of you might have had the unpleasant and unfortunate experience of being scammed. Hopefully, this post will help you be more wary of such acts, and so reduce the incidence of being a victim of scams.

Modus Operandi

Trade scamming occurs in the following manner:
The trader puts up an item (or gold) for trade.
You put up your gold (or item) for trade.
The trader accepts, but quickly removes his item (or gold) from the trade window just as you accept the trade.
You accept, and so does he.
You just gave away your gold (or item).

Prevention

Trade scammers learn the timing in which it takes the victim to click the 'confirm' button from past experience. The way around this is simply to make your timing unpredictable. You should delay your acceptance of the trade by several seconds, making him unable to tell when you are about to accept. If you find that he removes his item (or gold) in the meantime, you can be sure that he intends to scam you.

Insistence on trading through a stand is a fail safe, though somewhat more cumbersome, way of getting around this issue. The disadvantage of this is that players other than the intended trader can buy the item off the stand, or that the other player can bump his price above the agreed price (e.g you agreed to trade at 500,000 and he sells it for 599,999).

Cure

If you have been scammed, take note of the following details:
The exact time at which the scam occurred
The exact spelling of the scammer's name
The items traded
The location of trade
Send these details along with an explanation of the situation to 9dsupport@acclaim.com. These details should assist the support staff in verifying the incident through their log. Hopefully, they will be kind enough to reinstate the lost items or gold.
